Halong Bay Travel Guide

Halong Bay ("descending dragon bay") is located in Quang Ninh Province, Vietnam. It belongs to Halong City, Cam Pha Town and a part of Van Don and Yen Hung district.
Halong City is divided into two parts: East Halong and West Halong. The eastern part is an industrial zone where most of the province's official buildings are also concentrated. The western part, also called Bai Chay, is the animated tourism zone.

Halong Bay is located on the Western side of the Gulf of Tonkin in Northeastern Vietnam. The bay is approximately 35 km (21 miles) Northeast of the port city of Hai Phong and approximately 170 km (105 miles) by road from the capital Hanoi. The town of Halong is situated on the coast to the North of the bay. The journey from Hanoi to Halong takes approximately 3.5 hours.

Halong Bay – The World Natural Heritage where UNESCO recognized in 1994 and 2000 with many famous beaches, resort and histories… More and more people (Domestic and Foreigner) know about it day by day. Halong Bay located at Northeast in Vietnam, a part of Tonkin Gulf, including the sea area of Halong city. The South West of Halong Bay bordered on Cat Ba Island, The East is sea, The rest border land and coastline of 120 Km, with area total of 1553 Km2 and 1969 big and small island, inside 989 islands have name and 980 islands have no name. Island of Halong Bay have two types including Limestone Island and Schist Island, concentrated on two main area is South East (belong to Bai Tu Long Bay) and South West (Belong to Halong Bay) with tectonic process about 250 – 280 million years. 

Halong Bay is formed by Cat Ba island to the South, Ngoc Hung and Van Canh islands to the East and the Vietnamese coastline to the North and West. The bay covers a total area of 1,553 square kilometers (600 square miles). Occupying the heart of the bay between Halong town and Cat Ba island, the central World Heritage area stretches for 434 square kilometers (167 square miles).

The climate in Halong is wet tropical and affected by monsoon’s operation. It’s divided into four seasons: warm spring, hot and moist summer, cool autumn and dry and cold winter.

Halong Bay has a tropical climate with two distinctive seasons. The weather is hottest in June and July. From November to February is the winter featuring low temperature and little rainfall. The weather is dominated by the dry and cold northeast monsoon. The average temperature is from 16°C to 18°C.

The annual temperature of Ha Long bay is 22.80C, suitable for tourists to travel all year round. The best time to visit is from March to August, because during this time, tourists have the chance to shoot exotic photos with blue sky and sea as smoothe as mill pond. It’s cloudy and rainy in autumn and chilli in winter. Especially, the period between August and October is the typhoon season.
